Spring Allergy Szn
I used to have the worst allergies ever. Like seriously was the girl who couldn’t start her day without a zyrtec. I was so reliant on allergy medicine that I would freak out if I didn’t have one!
When I began to fall more in love with holistic health, I started reevaluating my reliance on over the counter drugs, including zyrtec. It kind of freaked me out that I was taking this pill every single day. When I started the journey of addressing the root cause of my gut issues, I also slowly weaned off of the allergy medicine I was taking.
I realized a lot of the fear had been all in my head, and I truly was okay without it. I also believe that in healing my gut issues, the severity of my allergies decreased. My allergies got so bad because my histamine intolerance got so bad.
I am not against over the counter drugs, I think there is a healthy balance within everything, but for me the allergy medication I was taking wasn’t doing me any good.
Spring is the time when allergies really begin to flare up in a lot of people due to the change of seasons, the blooming of flowers, and trees releasing their pollen.
No one wants to deal with itchy eyes and nose, runny nose, sneezing. I wanted to share some of my favorite holistic relief for allergies that have really helped me. I don’t take all of these things at once, just one thing at a time not to overdo it. Listen to your body and find what works for you.
Disclaimer: This is what works for ME, I am not professionally recommending any of these things. Please consult your medical professional before taking anything new.
Holistic Allergy Relief
Indoor Air Purifier: THIS right here is one of the best investments I have made in my health!!!! It has changed the way that I sleep and breathe: two of the most important things when it comes to overall health. I have found that this is the best air purifier and it has truly made such a positive impact in my life.
Hilma Indoor and Outdoor Support: This is what I first started taking when I stopped taking allergy medication, and it truly helped me so much. It is made with natural, drug free ingredients that support healthy sinuses and defend against pollen and irritants. I’ve shared this with many of my friends who deal with allergies and they all have wonderful things to say as well. *Hilma Discount code is glow20*
Raw Honey & Raw Milk. Both of these have been integral in supporting my allergies, I have both pretty much daily. Raw honey + bee pollen can help to improve allergies and immunity (local raw is best). Raw milk and dairy has also been correlated with improving allergies.
Hydration = KEY. Doesn’t it always though?? It has been found that when you are not properly hydrated, your body creates excess histamines which can lead to worsened allergies. Proper hydration means replenishing minerals and electrolytes while hydrating. My fav: Water with mineral salt and lemon and lime, pure fruit juice (I like cranberry splashed in my water or pure orange juice), coconut water, herbal tea, raw milk, spring water and shilajit in warm lemon water.
Nettle Leaf Tea: My brother, like me, has dealt with gnarly allergies all his life. He too has not wanted to be so reliant on over the counter medication and because of that his allergies have gotten so so much better. One of the things he recommends is Nettles Leaf Tea. His fav is Traditional Medicinals. Nettle Leaf can work as a natural antihistamine. I also like Organic Olivia’s Spring Defense Tonic which has Nettle Leaf in it. *Organic Olivia Discount code is glowwithella*
Beekeeper’s Natural’s Sinus Support: Helps to clear congestion and support a healthy immunity and histamine levels. I also ofc love their propolis throat spray for a scratchy itchy throat. *BKN Discount code is glowwithella*
Colostrum. Colostrum in general has been wonderful for helping to heal my gut and in turn supporting my overall immunity and allergies. This same brand also has a histamine and allergy support, but I have never tried it!
Steaming Hot Shower: There is no science here, but I feel as if a hot hot shower is always so beneficial for my allergies and kind of cleaning and draining me out. It always feels so good lol. I use THIS shower filter.
Reducing in-home fragrance. Artificial fragrance, chemicals and endocrine disrupters all made my allergies flare up like no other. Switching to clean beauty, non-toxic candles, essential oils and chemical free products really helped reduce that for me.
Spring Cleaning
Cleaning is therapeutic for me, and recently I feel like I have been more inclined to clean, organize, and get rid of junk that I no longer use.
A big change I made for my health was switching out all of my chemical cleaning products for more natural swaps. I am extremely sensitive to chemicals and fragrance so this was a really positive shift for me and I immediately noticed the difference.
These are the cleaning products I use:
For all purpose-spray, bathroom spray, glass spray, hand wash, dishwasher and laundry I use Branch Basics. It is great because it comes with everything you need, and all you have to do to make the solutions is use their concentrate. So once you get the whole set once, you only need to get the concentrate from there on out. You can even use it to wash your dishes and produce! Super simple, waste free and founded by two women who dealt with health issues and wanted to find a cleaner solution for household items. If you want to add scent to them I recommend adding some essential oils. You can also add thieves oil to the bathroom spray to make it more anti-bacterial. *glowwithella is a discount*
For toilet cleaner, I use these Blueland tablets. They also have great dishwasher tablets as well.
For cleaning my floors, I use this Biodegradable Dr.Bronner’s. This is a wonderful cleaning solution that literally will last years because all you need to use for it to be powerful is a little bit of it mixed in water. It is all purpose and can be used for just about anything. I use basically a wet swifter just with my own cleaning solution to clean the floors…and ofc put on my mop slippers while getting the job done.
