My Stowe, Vermont Itinerary

I spent the last weekend in Stowe, Vermont — doing lots of skiing and lots of eating. Vermont is absolutely stunning, it is truly such a wonderful and relaxing escape from the city. And the FOOD — SO GOOD. They really pride themselves on using local, seasonal and sustainable ingredients. Plus cheese and maple syrup are two of my favorite things and that is what they’re best at.

dreaming about this maple creamee

We drove from NYC to Stowe and really tried to make the most of the drive, stopping wherever we could to just walk around and explore, making what is really a give or take 5 hour drive into an 8 hour trip which made it so much more fun.

So I wanted to share my full itinerary — from stops on the drive to actually being in Stowe and stops on the way back — everywhere we drank, ate, thrifted, and stayed.

I definitely want to come back in the Fall when the trees are full of leaves and explore even more. But for nowww let’s get intoooo ittt…..

Road Trip from NYC to Stowe, Vermont

1st Stop — Raphael’s Bakery, Greenwich CT

Stop for coffee, breakfast & bathroom break

This was the perfect first stop to grab breakfast and take a lil bathroom break at, it was a little under an hour from the city and had a lot of parking.

The smell in Raphael’s is soooo good. We ended up getting a couple of croissants (one plain one chocolate — ask for it heated up if you can) but I kind of wish I got one of their baguettes or sandwiches instead. The breads looked incredible. We had already brought coffee from home but their coffee looked good as well!!

2nd Stop — Vermont Country Deli

Stop for good food, views, bathroom break, shopping & browsing

This was the stop I was MOST excited for and it was right on the way to Stowe — no veering off path. Vermont Country Deli is super well known, especially for their mac n’ cheese and pulled pork — which they literally have a limit on how much you can buy. But ALL of their ready-to-eat foods and baked goods are so so amazing. We got a lot lol — one of the oatmeal raisin giant cookies when you first walk in (so yum), a quart of mac n’ cheese and some pulled pork + coleslaw (please get this and get a bite with each thing it is HEAVEN), cooper also got a pulled pork sandwich, and then we got a slice of their cheesecake (SO GOOD), and some maple taffy and a couple of bevs.

Everything we ate was amazing, and they had an outdoor area near the market (btw theres a bathroom in the market so a good bathroom stop too!) that overlooked a beautiful flowing stream and trees. Gorgeous views and even better food. We also came here on the way back to get some Vermont cheeses and sandwiches. Definitely my favorite stop. PLUS — just a couple roads down are some awesome thrift/antique stores:

  • Experienced Goods — The perfect has-it-all thrift shop with clothes, furniture, homeware. We got 10 amazing frames for our apartment and Cooper got two great jackets. Everything ended up being around $45.

  • Millie’s Antiques — This woman has been doing this for over 20 years and you can tell, she has some of the most incredible things. I could’ve spent hours just wandering around her shop.
