Happy Wednesday! I am currently on my way to the Dominican Republic as we speak - I am going with one of my closest friends from college and her whole family. I love traveling because it gets me out of my routine which I really think is a good thing every once in a while (I have linked my travel ESSENTIALS below).
It is easy for me to get caught up in my routine and being home and although that is my comfort space, I’ve been prioritizing saying yes more and forcing myself out of that comfort zone. Rarely do I ever regret it even though the thoughts in my brain are always making up excuses.
On the red eye flight I took to get to the east coast prior to the DR, I was reading and listening to some podcasts (I cannot sleep on flights, it is brutal). One of the things that really stuck out to me that I think about a lot is a quote by Jay Shetty, “If we don’t sit and talk with people different from us, the distance is just going to get greater not less.” I think this is so important.
Wisdom Wednesday
We don’t need to agree with everyone, in fact, it is better that we don’t. Differing opinions and perspectives is what challenges us to be better and to do better, to learn more. But I see more and more people trying to shut down the voices of others versus listening. I truly cherish people who think differently than me - because it is a way for me to learn something new. I try to surround myself with people who feel the same way, open minded people who aren’t so stuck in their ways that they can’t even hear what someone else is saying without getting triggered, that is dangerous.
My wisdom Wednesday of the week (& something I am constantly working on every day) is to be able to 100% understand and defend the opposing side of something before jumping to the defense on what I believe. There is a way to say your views without tearing down someone else’s. Listening and learning is important and it is an opportunity to evolve.
If someone feels good and happy - who is to say what they are doing is wrong? This works in terms of health too - there is never going to be one right answer or one right trend because we are all so different.
One professional will say oil will kill you another will say it will heal you. In my opinion - not all oils are created equal. And it is important that you find the happy medium that works for you. Learn, research, and try for yourself. If you do everything I say you may feel amazing or you may not. We are different people in different bodies with different mindsets living different lives - so that makes sense.
When I share things - take what you like and leave what you don’t. Do something because of the way it makes YOU feel.
Health Pillar of the Week: Better for You & The Environment Clothing Brands
I’ve recently been learning a lot about the effect that certain clothing has on our health and our environment. Containing “forever chemicals” that leach into our body and are hard to get rid of, and harm the environment in the making and the getting rid of. Look - I am not perfect. I own these clothes, but as I learn more about the clothing industry I am working towards becoming more of a conscious consumer.
That starts with choosing brands that prioritize us and the environment. Voting with our dollar is a real thing :) I asked you guys for a list of recommendations and I thank you so much! I have already ordered from a few of these brands and I am so excited.
My Travel ESSENTIALS
+ Exclusive Seasonal Recipe: Summer Pistachio Pesto Pasta Salad with Summer Squash + Fennel
Traveling is getting out of my routine - which as I mentioned is a good thing for me every once in a while. But I do like to have some of my routine with me to keep me feeling healthy and happy on vacation - NOTHING worse than a gut flare up while traveling. Need to keep things moving, grooving and feeling good so you can focus energy on ENJOYING and being present. Traveling (especially to a drastically different time zone) can throw off your digestion, skin, sleep, immunity and more. I am usually eating a wide array of different foods, going out more, drinking more, and my body is not used to that.
So let’s get into how to avoid jet lag, gut flare ups, stay healthy + happy on vacation. And stay tuned after for my delish seasonal recipeeee.
