I love food. Period. Okay see ya later!
No but seriously, when they say food is medicine, I believe it.
At one point when my health was at its worst, I looked at a lot of food through the lens of “bad”. I still catch myself doing it today from years of it being wrongfully engrained into my head. When scrolling on Tiktok or Instagram, it can be so incredibly overwhelming. So much fear mongering, so much telling you what is good or bad for you, and then you scroll and the next video is saying the exact opposite. Those words can really get caught up in your head.
One of the most FASCINATING studies I reference all the time (& I do not have the study handy but I will explain the gist of it). There were two focus groups. Each group was told to drink a milkshake on the daily. One group (group A) was told it was a nourishing healthy smoothie that makes you lose weight, gain muscle, have mental clarity etc. The other group (group B) was told that it was a fattening processed sugary milkshake that was not very good for you. At the end of the study, group A had lost weight, gained muscle and felt great. Group B on the other hand gained weight as a whole and felt overall more sluggish. IT WAS THE SAME EXACT MILKSHAKE.
The power of the mind is incredible. Words and thoughts register in your mind and become reality. This power is transferable among more than just food, it translates to your life and what you can manifest for yourself, positive or negative.
My point in saying this was that listening to all of these people talk about what I should and shouldn’t do really put me in a state of fear. This fear manifested in my body into physical symptoms. It also took away from my own trust in my body and intuition. I had to really reevaluate what information I was consuming and take a real step back from it all to connect back with myself and truly heal.
Within that I rediscovered the beauty of food. Real food. Real ingredients. Food made with love and care. Food is more than just fuel, it is connection, culture, it is love.
Food is a love language in my opinion. One of my favorite ways to connect and learn about people is through their family recipes. That is something that makes the holidays so so special, eating food made with love, recipes passed down through generations. Cooking with loved ones. It is such a healing and bonding experience.
I love sharing recipes with you. I love when you create the recipes I make, I love when you add your own spin. I love putting a smile on your face through food. It really makes me feel like we are all connected. CHEESY I know but it is TRUE. I am so grateful for you this holiday season, and always.
