When it comes to writing about health and wellness I have felt a little bit conflicted lately.

my autumn market haul

The biggest theme that I have noticed in the world of health and wellness is the infinite amount of noise. That is what it is, noise disguised as advice. Distraction that takes us away from our deep sense of intuition. The more we listen to everyone else, the less we listen to ourselves. The more time we spend consuming content, the less silence we have to sit with our own thoughts and inner voice. It’s not just health and wellness, it’s everywhere. Boredom and silence has become so uncomfortable for most of us that we can’t even bear it.

Health and wellness is not a business. Health and wellness is not an industry. Health and wellness is what we pursue so that we can live our lives optimally. So we can take advantage of living. We want to be healthy so that we can enjoy our lives. We don’t want to stop enjoying our lives just so that we can be healthy. The more I have shifted to focus on living—doing things I love, participating in community, spending time outside and in nature, focusing on kindness and love—the healthier I feel. We are so focused on health and wellness, that we have lost sight of actually living. The whole entire point.

Now this is where I find myself conflicted. I never want something I say to become that negative noise for someone else. I think there are so many beautiful, inspiring and intentional parts of the health and wellness world, and just like most things, we must filter out the noise to find what is right for us. When I talk about health and wellness, I want you to know to not take anything I say for fact.

The recipe of our lives differs. I can share ingredients with you, but if you use the exact same ingredients I do you are going to get a different result. Choose the ingredients YOU love and that resonate with you, build your own recipe for life. Measure with your heart.

If you ever feel overwhelmed and conflicted, take a break from the noise. Focus on you. Focus on living. Tune into your body, and live presently. Find what brings you true joy and energy and peace. Made decisions with that in mind.

I have said this before: Health is no longer health when it is obsession and stress. Health is about doing things that make YOU feel good, no matter what the expert online says about it. It is about tuning out the noise. Health is feeling safe in your body. Health is being part of a community, giving without expecting something in return. Doing things out of love, instead of fear. It is waking up grateful, being respectful and honoring your body, nature, the environment. Showing up humble and kind.

We all find our own rhythm with the seasons in different ways. Your perfect answer to aligning with the rhythm of the seasons is within you. Just like how trees know to shed their leaves when fall approaches, a shift of energy is engrained in our biology as well.

One of my favorite parts about moving to NYC has been the seasons. I moved in the dead of winter, freezing cold and snowing, and although tough at times I loved it. I loved it when the sun started to shine, birds started to chirp, bumblebees started to buzz, and flowers began to bloom during spring. When the trees were bright green and the sun sweltering during summer. The crisp air and the browning of leaves during the fall. Each season has it’s own special personality, and I have grown fond of every single one. I tend to find myself saying “wow this is now my favorite season” every time a new season emerges. So naturally, yes my favorite season currently is fall.

Autumn is a time of release. It is the transitional period in between the buzzing energy of summer and the slowing down of winter. It is a time of letting go (physically & emotionally) and releasing stagnation to make storage for winter. Slowing down and deeply nourishing the body.

With that being said I am going to share some of my favorite things to make, activities to do & practices for the autumn season…
