Embrace the Winter
From NY Resolutions to NY Rest, & the Perfect Seasonal Chicken Soup Bowl
Gooood morning & happy January 4th. Sitting here sippin on some peppermint tea.
How’s everyones first week of the new year going?
As much as I am a lover of fresh starts, resolutions & goal settings, it is important to remember that we are still in the middle of winter! Just as the Earth goes through seasons, so do we. In the winter, it is time for slowing down, inward reflection, connection, and rest.
It goes against our natural inclinations to completely shift habits and change ourselves in the middle of winter. This does not mean that you should not set intentions and plan for yourself, but I encourage you to embrace your winter seasonal strengths. Lean into the extra rest. I saw this post from yournaturallearner that realllly resonated with me:
“Lean into the hibernation stage. Release things you don’t need. Eat the extra calories. Rest. Make lots of soups. Plan a garden. Cleanse and declutter your home. Connect with your (family). Read and be cozy. Buy new comfy pajamas. Journal, paint, draw, bake. Drink warm teas. Go inward — This year I invite you to go against the grain — Prepare your mind, body, home, relationships and self for transformation and goal setting when the natural inclination is at its peak at the welcoming of Spring.”
Felt like that was a really important reminder for all of us while we’re in the peak of winter intersecting with the new year :) It’s okay to slow down. It is actually what our body truly needs.
If you haven’t yet, check out the journaling practices I set up for all of us, really helps you tap into that inner reflection.
And of course, with the new month, means new seasonal produce. Although the winter seems like a time where produce is scarce, there is still much to enjoy during this time.
In the winter I like to focus on warm, cooked, easily digestible, nourishing, grounding meals. Think soups, stews, broths, spices, bowls. & lately my favorite thing has been making soup-inspired bowls.
